Solar panels don't need sunshine. They need DAYLIGHT
300+ Days of Sunshine
A common misconception stops people switching to solar.
Your panels generate electricity from photons in daylight — not heat, not direct sun.
Even on an overcast Andalusian (or Murcian or Alicantine) winter day, your system is working.
Solar panels work in daylight – not just on sunny days. They generate electricity which can be used for air conditioning, pool pump heaters (which also can cool pools on the hottest days of the year). Many air conditioners can be used as heaters for the winter months. They can be installed on flat roofs, tiled roofs – but they can also be integrated into separate structures such as car ports and bespoke solar pergolas providing shade to solariums.
Full sun (summer peak)
Maximum output. A 5 kWp system in this region can generate 25–30 kWh on a clear July day — enough to run your home and export surplus.
Overcast
Solar panels work in daylight even diffuse daylight still powers your panels at 10–25% of peak capacity. On our rare cloudy days, you're still generating free electricity.
Early morning & evening
As soon as light hits the panels after sunrise, generation begins. You're earning before your first coffee of the day.
Cool, bright winter days
Solar panels perform well in cool temperatures. A crisp, bright February day in Almería, Murcia or Alicante is excellent solar weather.
Every month you wait, you're leaving money on the roof.
Energy prices only go one direction
Spanish electricity bills have risen sharply. A solar system locks in your generation cost at near-zero for 25+ years. The grid price is irrelevant to your solar hours.
ROI in 5–8 years, free for 17+ after that
A typical residential system in Andalusia pays itself back in under 8 years. After that, every kWh is essentially free — for the remaining lifetime of the panels.
You're in the best solar location in Europe
Southeastern Spain receives among the highest solar irradiance on the continent — around 1,900–2,100 kWh/m² per year. You have a natural advantage most of Europe would envy.
Export surplus back to the grid
Spain's autoconsumo legislation (RD 244/2019) allows you to sell excess electricity back. In summer, your roof can genuinely earn you money.

Common questions
Do Solar Panels Work in Daylight?
How do solar panels actually work?
Solar panels work in daylight, they convert light into electricity — photons (light particles) dislodge electrons from the silicon panels to start the energy production process. So while direct sunlight maximises output, the diffuse light of a cloudy day produces electricity too.

Do solar panels still work if it's not perfectly sunny?
Yes — absolutely. Panels generate from daylight, not direct sunshine. Our region's 300+ clear days are a bonus, not a requirement. Even on stormy, cloudy days, rays of light from the sun penetrate the clouds and reach the ground — and that same light is absorbed by solar panels and converted into electricity. So as long as the sun comes up, panels will generate electricity.
How much output can I expect on a cloudy day?
On a cloudy day, expect panels to produce around 10–25% of their normal output, depending on how thick the cloud cover is. That's still enough to run appliances and reduce your grid consumption throughout the day.
Do they work in the rain?
Rain actually helps solar panels work more effectively — it washes away dirt and dust that has gathered on the panels so they can absorb light more efficiently.
How do I know how much electricity my panels are producing?
Every installation includes a monitoring app. You can see in real time exactly what your panels are generating and what your home is consuming — at any moment of the day. Most customers find it very satisfiying.
Is the paperwork for installing solar panels complicated in Spain?
We handle everything. Licences, grid connection, registration — all included. You do nothing but switch on.
What about solar panel maintenance?
Minimal. Solar panels have no moving parts. An occasional rinse in our dry climate is all they need. Ours come with a 25-year guarantee.
Is my roof suitable?
Most roofs are. South, southeast, or southwest facing is ideal, but even east-west splits work well here with our strong irradiance levels. Sometimes our customers choose a solar pergola or a solar car port.
